Back in 2016, Carlos Correa had to warn his teammates not to hit his wife-to-be Daniella Rodriguez. Correa, then with the Houston Astros, needed to earn a date with Daniella, and it wasn’t easy for him.
Carlos Correa was the 2015 American League Rookie of the Year and was part of the 2017 World Series-winning squad. He won two All-Star appearances with the Astros and was influential attending five straight American League Championship Series from 2017-2021.
Correa joined the Minnesota Twins in a 3-year, $105 million deal but resigned from his contract with them after one year. The 28-year-old Puerto Rican is now widely expected to join the New York Mets this season on a reported 12-year, $315 million contract.
Correa and Daniella met when the former Miss Texas was invited to the Astros’ home in September 2016 for the usual first pitch. In the game, the former Astros shortstop had to prevent his Houston teammate Chris Devenski from meeting his future wife when he had his eye on her.
In a video describing their relationship, Correa said:
“I remember my teammate Chris Devenski being there to catch it [the first pitch]. When pitchers walk down the field to go to the bullpen, I remember telling him, “Hey Devo, don’t even think about it. She’s mine.'”
However, this wasn’t the first time they had spoken and Correa contacted her when he saw her compete in the Miss USA pageant. He had texted her via Instagram.
“I told her, ‘Texas is proud and she did really well,'” Correa said.
Daniella said she was initially hesitant to reply before her mother persuaded her to send one.
Rodriguez also happened to have chosen Carlos Correa’s shirt for their first place
Daniella also spoke about randomly picking Carlos Correa’s shirt for her first pitch at Minute Maid Park. She considered buying this exact shirt, but didn’t want to stir up rumors and opted for a plain jersey instead.
After the game, Correa Rodriguez sent another message on Instagram.
“You are even more beautiful in person,” Correa said, he wrote.
The two would eventually start dating. Correa would propose to his then-girlfriend after her World Series win on live TV. The two would marry in 2019 and welcome their first child on November 29, 2021. Recently, in October 2022, the couple announced that they were expecting their second child.
