If you return to Los Angeles a week later, on September 24th, Alaska has a flight that leaves San Jose at 1:30am, which can be a bit inconvenient, but the price stays at $356.

All fares in this group of discounted flights apply to the Basic Economy option only. In this case, Basic Economy for Alaska is the airline’s saver option and does not include seat selection. Passengers flying Saver fare cannot change their flight either and will be the last to board. So there may also be a lack of space in the overhead compartment for your hand luggage if your flight is full.

Despite these limitations, this price point is considered low for a trip to San Jose according to Google Flights; Typically, the cheapest flights to the capital of Costa Rica range from $930 to $2,050.

While some airlines’ basic economy fares still allow you to select a seat on the plane for an additional fee, Alaska does not let its Saver customers select a seat in the main cabin of the plane.

bottom line
