Restaurant Roundup: Taco Bell throwback, Strawbale special day, new Sunday breakfast buffet, Thanksgiving dinners

The enchirito returned to the Tacobell Menu today but it’s only here until November. The chain discontinued the enchilada in 2013, but fans brought it back in a head-to-head vote with another item that had been dropped: the Double Decker Taco. The enchirito received 62 percent of the vote, with more than 760,000 fans weighed in, Taco Bell said.

Vineyard straw bales north of Sioux Falls near Renner opens its tasting room Saturday from 12pm to 4pm. “Come and enjoy a bottle of wine, $2 beer and special offers on gift items,” the winery said in a social media post. Owners Don and Susie South announced their retirement earlier this year, which involved closing the tasting room while continuing to supply liquor stores through their wholesale business. They had a bottle sale on another day this fall.

Looking for a new Sunday breakfast buffet with a little drive across the country? Pinz in Dell Rapids added one a few weeks ago. It offers eggs of different kinds, pastries, hash browns, homemade cookies and sausage gravy, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit and French toast sticks. It is served from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Prices are $13.50 for adults 12 and older, $9 for children 4-11 years old and free for children under 3 years old. Unlimited mimosas are $12, and the bowling alley is fully licensed, so Bloody Marys and other beverages are available.

Last week we told you about the Gobbler pizza Wood fired pizza from Papa Woody. Here’s the fried bread version Watecha bowl serves at least for the remainder of the month. It starts with a fried sage and mint bread topped with mashed potatoes, turkey and homemade gravy. It is served with corn and wojapi as a side dish.

  • The rush Serves a turkey dinner with all the trimmings starting Thursday noon until the meal is gone. Voluntary donations are accepted and will go to The Rush for the Causes to help local families in need.
  • Chef’s Pizza & Chicken at 2111 S. Minnesota Ave. Serves a complimentary grab and go meal. Dinners include acclaimed chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, and corn. Meals can be picked up on Thursdays from 10:30am – 3:30pm in the rear drive-thru lot. Call 605-271-2677 with questions.
  • Watecha bowl Serves a Native American Heritage Month Thanksgiving Day Feed on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A complimentary turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, candied carrots and a to-go bun will be served. There is a choice of cake or tart and there is also a drink with the meal.
  • Wiley’s has two options for a free meal for Thanksgiving. Stop by on Sundays from 1pm to 6pm to pick up a box with enough food to make a family dinner for four to six people. Registration is not required, but helpful. To do this, make a note in the contact box on wileysbar.com. Wileys has at least 40 boxes and hopes to add more to feed as many families as possible. Grab a hot to-go meal on Thursday from 11am to 1pm.

Severance Brewing Co. is hosting a Friendsgiving party with free pizza from Sunny’s Pizzeria Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be 25 large Bangers & Mash With Turkey pizzas and five cheese or pepperoni pizzas.

Charlie’s pizza has new daily dine-in and call-in carryout specials. Monday: Buy a large pizza and get a medium pizza and a free pitcher or 2 liter bottle of soda. Tuesday: Half price grand pianos and local beers from 5pm to 8pm. Wednesday: Large specialty pizza, three-cheese bread, and a pitcher or 2-liter bottle of soda for $30. Thursday: Buy a pizza, the second half price. There are single, couple, and family combo specials for lunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Single: Small, single-topping pizza, a slice of garlic or cheese bread, and a beer or soda for $15. Pair: Medium pizza, two slices of garlic or cheese bread, and two drinks for $25. Family: Large pizza, four slices of garlic or cheese bread, and a pitcher of beer or soda for $30.

The peppermint drinks will continue into December, along with the addition of gingerbread and eggnog flavors.

Changes in opening hours, service

  • Swamp Daddy’s Cajun cuisine is no longer open on Tuesdays. The new winter opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Pizza di Paolo rolled back the hours on the way into winter. The Monday service was discontinued earlier this month and now Tuesday and Wednesday are gone too. The new opening hours are Thursday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
