Men’s Basketball Hosts UMass-Lowell in Home Opener Thursday

NEW YORK – Columbia men’s basketball will play Rutgers on Monday, November 7 at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway to round out the 2022-23 season. Game time is scheduled for 7pm and can be seen live on BTN+.

• Columbia returns to Schiller Court Thursday night after falling at Rutgers Monday night. Zine Bedri led in his collegiate debut by eight points and five rebounds.
• The Lions are 84-35 all-time in home openers and have won nine of their last 14 opener games at Levien High School.

STATUS OF UMASS-LOWELL
The Riverhawks earned a 108-43 win over Fisher Monday night. Everette Hammond scored a game-high 23 points to lead six double-digit scorers. UMass-Lowell is coming off a 15-16 campaign in 2021-22 and was 7-11 in America East.
WITHIN THE SERIES-UMASS-LOWELL
Thursday marks only the second meeting between the schools. The Lions won the previous matchup, 78-39, in December 2013 at Morningside Heights.
COLUMBIA VS THE AMERICA EAST
The Lions are 21-25 against teams currently in the America East Conference. This season, Columbia plays five opponents (UMass-Lowell, Binghamton, New Hampshire, UMBC, Maine) from the conference. The Lions went 2-2 with America East Schools in 2021-22, surpassing Binghamton and Maine and falling at UAlbany and UMBC.
BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER
The Lions are returning nearly 75 percent of their 2021-22 goals, highlighted by Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa. The Guardian averaged 12.3 points per game, which was the third-highest total for a freshman year in program history.
