Sailing adds Emma Montgomery as Assistant Coach

PROVIDENCE, RI – Barry Family director of the John sail chair Mollicone has announced the addition of Emma Montgomery ’22 as an assistant coach. Montgomery sailed for Brown from 2018 to 2022.

Though three seasons were impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Montgomery was part of six of the top five national championship teams during her time at Brown. As a crew, she was part of the teams that took first place at the 2019 ICSA Women’s National Championship in Newport, RI, first at the 2019 ICSA Women’s Team Race National Invitational at MIT, fourth at 2021 ICSA Women’s National Championship in Annapolis, MD, fourth at 2022 ICSA Brown Women’s Team Race National Championship, third at 2022 ICSA Open Dinghy National Championship in Tulane and fifth at the 2022 ICSA Women’s National Championship in Tulane.

In her 2021-2022 senior season, Montgomery received awards for All-American Honorable Mention Crew, First-Team All-Ivy, 2022 Ivy League Championship Crew, New England Women’s Crew of the Year Finalist, All-New England Women’s Crew, Academic All Ivy. Montgomery was one too ICSA All-Academic Team selection from 2020-2022.

Her leadership experience with the Brown Sailing Team includes positions of Team Captain (2021), Crew Captain (2020) and Freshman Captain (2019). In 2021, Emma received the Fredrick H. Wilson, Jr. ’49 Sportsmanship Award, voted for by her teammates.

Outside of collegiate sailing, Montgomery took first place in US Parasailing in 2021 three-handed Championship. She has experience coaching and teaching adaptive sailing.

Montgomery currently resides in the Boston area and works in educational counseling.
