Friar Dance Team Signs Jayla Augustin Through Team IMPACT

PROVIDENCE, RI – Providence College dance team head coach Katie Printer announced today (November 13) a new team member signing 12-year-old Jayla Augustin through Team IMPACT.

Jayla, who suffers from sickle cell disease, was officially introduced on Sunday November 13th at a press conference on the day of the signingth at the Ruane Friar Development Center. She will participate in many activities with the dance team, including games, practices, and other team events.

Team IMPACT, a national nonprofit, has developed a unique multi-year program that connects children facing serious illnesses and disabilities with collegiate athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT directs a symbiotic relationship between teams and children that focuses on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.

“Team IMPACT is excited to have Jayla officially join the brothers,” said Danielle Hardee, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast for Team IMPACT. “We are proud to work with Providence College, its athletic department and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates.”

Providence College has worked with Team IMPACT for the past 10 years and has 14 children on its teams for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s hockey, women’s dance, men’s swimming and men’s Lacrosse teams brought together.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jayla and her family to our monastic family,” Printer said. “A big thank you to Team IMPACT for the opportunity to create a positive experience for Jayla and our program! We look forward to seeing our team continue to grow and dancing with Jayla.”
