LATINO DRUG CARTEL MEMBER WAS BUSTED IN CHARLOTTE WITH KILOGRAMS OF METH

On December 14, 2022, Miguel Angel Lopez-Resendiz, 28, was sentenced to 262 months in prison followed by three years of supervised imprisonment. Miguel trafficked 9 kilograms of methamphetamine in Charlotte, NC. Miguel is a Mexican citizen and lived in Charlotte. Miguel worked for the Latino drug cartels in Mexico as a liaison to the US.
From June through September 2021, Miguel trafficked a significant quantity of methamphetamine in and around Mecklenburg County. Court records show that on at least two occasions, Miguel sold methamphetamine to an undercover federal agent.
On one such occasion, on September 9, 2021, Miguel met with the undercover agent in a restaurant parking lot, where he sold the agent almost a kilogram of methamphetamine.
On September 23, 2021, Miguel arranged another drug transaction with the undercover agent. When Miguel arrived to complete the transaction, law enforcement attempted to arrest him. Miguel fled and the police arrested him after a brief foot chase.

The police searched Miguel’s vehicle. In the trunk, officers found nearly two kilograms of methamphetamine and a semi-automatic assault rifle loaded with a high-capacity drum magazine that could hold more than 100 rounds of ammunition.
As part of the law enforcement operation, investigators also executed a search warrant at Miguel’s drug stash, from which they seized over three more kilograms of methamphetamine.
During the course of the investigation, law enforcement determined that Miguel had dealt in more than 6 kilograms of methamphetamine.

On June 24, 2022, Miguel pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
