Tiger Woods announces return to course: ‘See you soon at Albany’

Fifteen-time Major winner Tiger Woods will return to the competition before the end of the year.

Woods, who last played at the British Open in Julyannounced on Wednesday that he had fielded at the Hero World Challenge in December.

“I am pleased to announce that I will be in the field this year [Hero World Challenge]’ Woods posted on social media. “Warm welcome [Kevin Kisner] and [Tommy Fleetwood] that you are with us too. See you soon in Albany!”

TIGER WOODS, RORY MCILROY VERSUS JUSTIN THOMAS AND JORDAN SPEITH IN MATCH

Founded by Woods and his father, the Hero World Challenge will be held December 1-4 in Albany, Bahamas.

The tournament will have a field that includes Scottie SchefflerJon Rahm, Justin Thomas and returning champion Victor Hovland.

Woods’ announcement comes just days after his appearance on The Match with Rory McIlroy became official.

“I can’t wait to play Capital One’s: The Match with [McIlroy] versus [Thomas] and [Spieth] to raise money for Hurricane Ian relief,” Woods posted on social media Monday. “See you on December 10 under the lights.”

Woods has competed in just three events in 2022 – all majors – most recently missing the cut at the 2022 Open Championship in St Andrews.

Woods’ participation in the Open Championship came just 17 months after his horrific car accident in Southern California, in which he nearly lost a leg.

Woods, 46, became emotional after the round at St Andrews and said it may be his last time playing the legendary course at the Open Championship.

“I’ve been fortunate to have been doing this since 1995 and I don’t know if I’ll be physically able to play another British Open here at St Andrews,” said Woods. “I certainly feel like I can play more British Open but I don’t know if I’ll be there when it comes back here. The warmth and the ovations on the 18th… it got to me.”
