This Aussie city is a hot travel destination for 2023

Travel company Booking.com has released its study on travel trends for 2023, and one Australian city has made it into the top 10 world travel destinations list.

Hobart in Tasmania is the only Australian destination among a list of global hotspots including Brazil, Italy, India and the US that people are dying to visit in 2023.

Their poll found that 75% of people are “more optimistic about travel” than last year, and that 72% think travel is “still worth it” despite financial and political uncertainties. In fact, more than half of those surveyed said spending money on a vacation is still a top priority.

In our post-lockdown world, people are not only thinking about where to travel but also what they want to experience during their holiday, with many looking for more meaningful and exciting experiences than just lying on the beach.

Most people want a nostalgic getaway, with 61% of travelers wanting to visit a theme park and more than half planning a vacation with family reunions. Community-oriented vacations were also popular, followed by trips where people could break the budget and enjoy some luxury.

When it comes to vacations with a specific theme or experience, most people want to enjoy an ‘eccentric food’ vacation, where they try lots of exotic foods that aren’t available at home. Spiritual and health retreats were also popular options, while many would like to attend wilderness survival school or go on an “erotic escape”, while a third said they would like to take a virtual vacation at home.

How to save for this holiday

Once you’ve decided on your next vacation and are pondering how to pay for it, the survey reveals the different ways people are saving to fund their vacations, with the majority of people taking advantage of deals, hacks and wisely timed vacations. Others planned further ahead, took advantage of discounts or loyalty programs, or used their budget for longer rather than shorter vacations. Some also considered visiting destinations in the off-season when prices drop.
