SANTA FE – Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) Veteran Resource Center (VRC) is hosting Veterans & Family Appreciation Day on Thursday, November 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Jemez Rooms on campus at 6401 Richards Ave.
Joseph L. Villegas, Sr., SFCC Associate Professor, Navy Veteran and New Mexico State Defense Force Chaplain, will deliver a keynote address during the opening ceremonies.
The free public event will include a resource fair with information on new benefits and programs for veterinarians, support for veteran-owned businesses, educational benefits and family services for veterans. There will also be information about academic programs and scholarships. Families are encouraged to participate.
“We are pleased to once again offer this in-person event to show the college’s support and appreciation for veterans and their families,” said VRC Director Krystal Patton. “Patton, a Navy veteran, understands the needs of veterans.”

At the November 10 event, SFCC’s VRC will be collecting items for the Santa Fe Vet Center’s annual Stand Down event for the homeless, which will be held November 11 and 12 from 9am to 3pm at the Vet Center at 2209 Brothers Road takes place in Santa Fe. Patton encourages those unable to bring items to the SFCC event to bring them directly to the Vet Center.
Items Homeless Veterans will need for the Stand Down event:
- Sleeping bags
- Non-perishable foods
- Winter clothing (gloves, socks, hats, scarves).
