NU Notes: Weidner scores 20, No. 22 Husker women top Houston Christian – PANHANDLE

Fort Meyers, Florida – The Nebraska men’s tennis team wrapped up their fall season at the Bonita Bay Classic, held in Florida over the weekend. The Huskers left the Sunshine State with 10 wins as a team during the three-day tournament and amassed seven singles wins and a trio of doubles.

Rudy Christiansen was the only undefeated Husker that weekend, posting a perfect 3-0 record in singles after winning all six sets. On Friday, he defeated Florida Gulf Coast’s Eric Oncins 6-4, 6-3 before beating Memphis’ Sam Edgar 6-2, 6-0 in back-to-back sets the following day. The Heilbronn native finished Sunday’s tournament with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Virginia Tech’s Matt Harper. In the fall, the junior holds a 5-3 individual record in his four tournament appearances.

Lars Johann, William Gleason and Shunya Maruyama Each won against the Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night, propelling the Huskers to four singles wins over the Eagles. Johann’s win was his sixth of the fall season, the second highest for Nebraska after defeating Marcelo Sepulveda in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

Nico Wiedenhorn On Sunday morning, he celebrated his first tournament victory by defeating the Hokies’ Jordan Chrysostom 6-1, 7-6 (4). in the Calvin Mullers In the only game he lost to Magnus Johnson 7:6 (4), 6:1, the 123rd player in the individual competition.

In doubles on Friday, Gleason and Wiedenhorn clinched the only win for the Huskers, overtaking FGCU’s Johnson and Sepulveda 6-3. They followed that up with another 6-4 win over the Memphis team of Connor Gannon and David Stevenson on Saturday. It was the duo’s first games together this fall, just a year after they worked together five times. Maruyama and Johann earned their only tournament win on Sunday, beating Virginia Tech’s Ryan Fishback and Frank Thompson 6-2.
