HELEN – Thousands of visitors, two and four legged furry friends and their owners, attracted two by two rescue’s annual Barktoberfest celebration last weekend.

Dogs roamed in front of the backdrop of Buck Creek Waterfall at Helena Amphitheater Park on Sunday, November 6, 2022, marking the fifth year that the annual dog festival was held.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us,” said Sonya King, Founder and CEO of Two by Two. “The reception was great. It was stable all day, we had a wonderful turnout.”

The event functions as the nonprofit organization’s largest fundraiser, honoring its foster and adoption services as well as Two by Two alumni who have been adopted by the organization.

“It just felt wonderful for everyone,” King said. “Just to get together and celebrate. This was our 20th anniversary so it was exciting to just get out and see a lot of the dogs we had rescued that are now in homes.”

Festival funds help with the rescue’s vet bills, which King says is the biggest expense given the organization currently has over 300 animals in its care and has saved over 1,400 animals in 2022.

“We are inundated with requests to adopt animals on a daily basis,” King said.

As well as spotlighting “man’s best friend” the event also featured vendors, food trucks, an off-leash dog park, kid’s zone, vendor booths, performances, a photo booth, prizes and low-cost vaccines and microchips provided by Constant Companion.

In addition, King thanked everyone who made the event possible, as well as those who help deliver Two by Two’s rescues.

“I thank the volunteers for their time and energy,” King said. “We had volunteers who came as early as 6:30 a.m. and stayed until 7 p.m. to help.”

King also thanked Big Al, the University of Alabama mascot, for attending the event along with event presenting sponsor Art Black.
