Spartans Close Out Fall Season at The Landfall Tradition

East Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan State women’s golf team wraps up the first half of the 2022-23 season this week, playing in The Landfall tradition at the Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, NC

The three-day, 18-hole event begins Friday, October 28 at 8:30am. The tournament will resume on Saturday, October 29th and conclude on Sunday, October 30th with a shotgun start at 8:45am. The Landfall Tradition is played on a 6,150-yard, par-72 layout along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.

Michigan State placed 10th out of 14 teams in the Tar Heel Invitational on October 18. The Spartans hit a 30-over, par 894 (289-296-309). fifth year Valery Plata led Michigan State to finish 16th on 4-over-par 220 (67-75-78). second grader Brooke Bierman and jr Valentin Rossi Tie for 33rd place at 9-over, par 225.

Playing in their fourth event of the season, the Spartans opened the season with two top-five finishes, first at the Cougar Classic and then at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic. second grader Brooke Bierman leads the team with a scoring average of 72.33, with her best finish being 10th place at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic. fifth year Valery Plata is second on the team with a scoring average of 73.11. The team welcomes Junior Valentin Rossi back to lineup. Rossi missed the Windy City Classic while playing for her native Argentina and helped lead her team to a gold medal at the South American Games.

This year marks the 13th year in a row for the Spartans to perform at the Landfall Tradition. Overall, it is MSU’s 15th appearance in the tournament, with the third most appearances overall. The Spartans had one of their best results of the tournament in 2017, finishing third in the two-round event shortened by rain. MSU holds the tournament record for lowest team round of 13 under par 275 in 2015, while Sarah Burnham’s 6 under par 66 ties for lowest individual round and lowest round by all players on the Sunday of the event. Two Spartans in Sara Brown (2006) and Burnham (2015) have both won medals on touchdown.
