MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — The Iowa Wild battled the Milwaukee Admirals Friday night and earned a 4-3 victory on the road. Michael Milne returned to the Iowa lineup for the first time since the season opener, scoring his first professional goal in the third period in what was ultimately deemed a game-winner.

Iowa first got on the board playing four-on-four hockey. After Nic Petan initiated a rush into the Milwaukee zone, Steven Fogarty sent Joe Hicketts with a cross-ice feed for a one-timer past Devin Cooley (26 saves) for the 1-0 result at 8:17 to achieve in the first third.

The Wild led the shot count after the first period 11-9 and led the Admirals 1-0.

The Admirals tied the game just a minute into the second period. Cole Schneider found Luke Evangelista ahead of Zane McIntyre (31 saves) with a backhand pass from behind the net. Evangelista made it 1-1 with a chip from McIntyre’s glove.

Iowa regained the lead 4:08 into the middle frame. Dakota Mermis found Petan at the left post spinning to put Mitchell Chaffee in the wide open cage. The goal was Chaffee’s fifth in four games and gave Iowa a 2-1 lead.

Milwaukee equalized 2-2 on the power play 34 seconds later. Tommy Novak dropped the puck from the right circle to Evangelista in the slot, who flicked a shot past McIntyre on the glove side.

With 16:23 of the second third, the Wilden finally took the lead. With Cooley down and out, Petan pulled a puck out from under the Admirals goalie, pulled it to his forehand and slipped it into the net to give Iowa a 3-2 lead. The goal was Petan’s first in a Wild sweater and was assisted by Hicketts and Damien Giroux.

After forty minutes of play, the Wild had a 3-2 lead on the scoreboard but were 25-22 behind in shots.

Milne scored his first professional goal and eventual game winner at 8:18 into the third period. After a net front scramble, Milne snapped a second chance past Cooley to extend Iowa’s lead to 4-2. Sammy Walker was credited with an assist.

Kiefer Sherwood drew Milwaukee close at 15:51 in the third with a shot from high position on goal, but the Wild held off the Admirals to end the win.

Milwaukee passed Iowa 34-30. The Wild went 0-to-1 on powerplay while the Admirals went 1-to-4 with man advantage.
