Members of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering represent the U of A at the annual meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and Economics.
The Department of Industrial Engineering had a strong presence at the Annual Meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Sandra Eksioglu, Hefley Professor of Logistics and Entrepreneurship, took second place in the Energy, Natural Resources and the Environment Best Publication Award at the conference.
Eksioglu’s article “Optimal Governmental Incentives for Biomass Cofiring to Reduce Emissions in the Short-Term” was published in IISE Transactions and co-authored with Amin Khademi, Department of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University.
INFORMS Quality Statistics and Reliability Division announces the Best Student Paper Award to recognize excellence among its student members.
PhD student Xinchao Liu was selected as a finalist in the Best Paper Competition of the Quality, Statistics and Reliability section. Xinchao is advised by assistant professor Xiao Liu. The paper’s co-authors are Tulin Kaman, Department of Mathematical Sciences at U of A; Guang Lin, Department of Mathematics at Purdue University; and Liu.
Four finalists for the Best Student Paper Award will be selected to make presentations at the INFORMS Annual Meeting. The winner will be announced later at the conference at the Quality Statistics and Reliability Business Meeting. All finalists receive an award certificate and three years of complimentary membership.
In addition to these recognitions, the INFORMS Student Chapter at the U of A received the Cum Laude Award for its chapter commitment over the past year. This was the second year in a row that the group had received this award.

About the Department of Industrial Engineering: The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas was established in 1950 under the leadership of Department Head John L. Imhoff, who believed strongly in the global impact of industrial engineering. Today, the department has an average of over 200 undergraduate students and over 40 PhD and masters students. In addition, the department has three online master’s programs: the Master of Science in Operations Management, the Master of Science in Engineering Management and the Master of Science in Operations Analytics.
