Where Does Georgia Tech Currently Fall In The Transfer Portal Rankings?

Georgia Tech was active on the transfer portal early in the cycle, but as things have cooled off a bit, where do the Yellow Jackets currently stand in the transfer portal rankings?
Within a weekend, the Yellow Jackets managed to land most of the six transfers signed by Brent Key. USF transfer tight end, Jackson Long, first and then the rest seemed to follow after that. Texas A&M wide receiver traded a few days later, and Georgia Tech landed linebackers Braelen Oliver and Andre White Jr, running back Trevion Cooley and quarterback Haynes King on Georgia Tech’s big official visiting weekend before signing day. It was a good haul for the Yellow Jackets and touched on some key points players needed for the 2023 season.
The first transfer window is still open and will last until the end of the month, so there’s still time to add more if Georgia Tech decides to do so. This ranking is of course subject to change over the next few weeks as they add more players.
Georgia Tech’s transfer class currently ranks 32nd nationally and eighth in the ACC, according to 247Sports. The most senior transfers brought in by the team are Lane and Cooley. The teams in the ACC that rank above Georgia Tech are Florida State, North Carolina, Louisville, Miami, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Syracuse. North Carolina has received two signings from two former Yellow Jackets, wide receiver Nate McCollum and defenseman Derrik Allen.
Tech has the third most signings in the ACC so far. North Carolina leads by nine, Florida State and Louisville by eight, and the Yellow Jackets by six. Florida State has the highest-ranked transfer league in the country and has done a great job adding players to a team that ended the season well.
How does each of these guys fit in?
King will likely enter a contest with Zach Pyron in the spring to be the starting quarterback in the fall. Both players are young and upside down and it will be one of the most interesting fights and positions to watch this spring and beyond.
Cooley will provide depth and there’s a chance he could start. With the return of Dontae Smith and expected improvement from young defenders Jamie Felix and Antonio Martin, it could be a position of strength for Georgia Tech.
Lane will almost certainly be at the top of the rotation at the receiver position. The Yellow Jackets are losing McCollum, Malachi Carter, EJ Jenkins and Ryan King from last season and I think it’s likely they’ll add another receiver via the portal at some point.
Long has yet to play in his collegiate career, but he has talent and the tight position was a weakness for Georgia Tech last season.
Oliver and White will be in the running to help replace production lost with the departure of Charlie Thomas and Ace Eley. Both players have played and brought experience and I expect them to be leaders in the spring and beyond.
This is a solid group that puts players in positions where they are needed. Let’s see if Georgia Tech adds more players via the transfer portal and where those rankings end up when the transfer portal window closes.
