Connecticut Press Club Announces 2022 Communications Contest

The annual competition includes 61 writing, editing and visual arts categories and is open to all Connecticut-based media professionals.

If you’ve written a news article or personal essay, published a book, started a blog, created a social media campaign, or taken a photo that you’re particularly proud of, submit your work to the Connecticut Press Club’s popular communications contest , which rewards excellence in a variety of categories.

Submissions in 63 categories are evaluated by experts with the relevant expertise. Categories include:

  • Online and print news articles and columns

  • Personal essay

  • social media campaigns

  • Non-fiction, fiction, poetry, youth and children’s books

  • Specialist articles from the fields of art, food, business, education, travel and more …

  • Page design, editing, photography and graphics

  • radio and television

  • podcasts and blogs

  • Advertising and PR

In addition to the professional competition, the Connecticut Press Club hosts a High School Communications Contest. Submissions must be created by a current high school student or a recent graduate student who created the paper in their senior year after February 1, 2022. Entries must be professionally published/produced or produced by a school or professional publication in an accredited publication/resource for the category. i.e. a school, local or national newspaper, website etc.

A few requirements to keep in mind:

  • Eligibility: Communicators living and working in Connecticut are eligible. Papers published between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 are eligible.

  • Contest Fees: Fee is $25 for the first entry and $15 for Connecticut Press Club members (click here to register); Non-members pay $30 for the first entry and $20 for each additional entry. High school admission fees are $10 per entry.

  • Closing date: The regular closing date for the competition is January 18 at 12 noon. After this date, a late fee of $25 will apply to the first entry you submit. The closing date for entries is February 8th at 12 noon. The last booking deadline is February 1st.

  • Anyone who receives first place in the Connecticut contest is eligible to enter the National Federation of Press Women’s national communications contest provided annual NFPW membership dues have been paid. (Membership fees can be paid when registering for the competition.)

The Connecticut Press Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) and includes both male and female members. The club welcomes all types of communicators: writers, editors, bloggers, authors, educators, PR professionals, media photographers, students and more.
