Capitola, California Is A Hidden Gem For A Weekend Getaway

Capitola is a seaside town in Santa Cruz County. Not as famous as its neighboring city of Santa Cruz, Capitola is a quaint seaside town perfect for a weekend getaway in Northern California. Capitola is just a town on Monterey Bay, a designated marine reserve. The bay stretches from Santa Cruz in the north to Monterey in the south.

Some of the colorful cottages are available for rent on sites like VRBO. You can also stay at the Capitola Venetian Hotel, a colorful 1920s Mediterranean-style hotel overlooking the beach.

At the end of the wharf is a boat rental shop, as well as the Wharf House Restaurant, which serves seafood and has live music.

Just a short walk into town from the shipyard is the Capitola Beach Company, where you can rent a variety of boards and take stand up paddle boarding and surfing lessons.

From the cliffs you can watch the surfers and take great photos of the ocean and Capitola shoreline.

Soquel Creek flows through Capitola but ends in front of the ocean. Use the beach to get to the other side.

Popular events include the Capitola Art and Wine Festival, Capitola Beach Festival, Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting, Wharf to Wharf Race and the Hot Rod and Custom Car Show.
