Bears to Face Lipscomb in ASUN Championship

CONWAY, Ark. – Championship Saturday is upon us for the Central Arkansas men’s soccer team! The Bears play for the ASUN Championship title on Saturday and will face No. 1 Lipscomb for the second time this season. Kickoff against the Bisons is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.

The Bears (6-4-6, 5-1-2 ASUN) made it into the championship game after beating No. 6 Bellarmine on PKs Monday night. 2:2 draw after 110 minutes of football Zach Schall knocked out the Knights in the shootout and stopped three shots in a row to seal the Bears’ ticket to Saturday’s finals. It marks the second straight ASUN Finals for the Bears, who were also the team’s first in the league last season.

Also in the semifinals on Monday Sebastian Andresen scored one goal and one assist, scoring the first goal for the Bears before they matched the assist to equalize. It takes the Norwegian to eight goals and six assists, giving him 22 points this year. He became the first bear since Nicholas Brodacki Surpassed the 20 point threshold in 2019 and is one of two players in ASUN to hit the bull’s eye this season.

The Bears are taking on Lipscomb for the fourth time in two years and need to come up with something against the Bisons, who have been unsuccessful in their last three games. In that year’s regular season matchup, the Bears went down to 10 players after being shown a red card and eventually fell 3-0 in Conway.

Meanwhile, the Bisons (13-2-2, 7-1 ASUN) put together one of the program’s most successful seasons, finishing 12th in the United Soccer Coaches poll with an RPI of 11 and suffering just one loss in the championship game on Saturday. In Monday’s semifinals in Nashville, Lispcomb scored the winner in the 108th minute of second overtime against No. 4-seeded Florida Gulf Coast and snagged a score just before heading to the PKs.

Saturday’s fight also marks the second ASUN Championship game between the teams. Last season’s conference tournament went the same way, with the Bears and Bisons cleaning the house en route to a heavyweight bout in Nashville. The ASUN finals ended in favor of the bison, so the bears are out for revenge.

Saturday’s championship round will be held at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tennessee. As an ASUN tournament match, the event will be ticketed, tickets are available here. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats are available here.
