ADOT’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory (Nov. 11-14) – Phoenix area


PHOENIX — Improvement projects along some highways in the Phoenix area will require closures or lane restrictions this weekend (Nov. 11-14), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers should allow extra time and plan alternate routes. The following motorway restrictions are planned:

  • Southbound I-17 is closed between Loop 101 and Greenway Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Nov. 14) for ADOT’s ongoing road improvement project. Both Loop 101 ramps to I-17 southbound closed. The I-17 southbound on-ramps at Pinnacle Peak and Deer Valley streets and at Rose Garden Lane were also closed. diversions: Allow for additional travel time. Consider getting off before the closure and using southbound 19th or 35th Avenue to drive past the closure. Motorists may also consider using State Route 51 southbound as an alternate southbound freeway route.
  • I-10 was narrowed to one lane in both directions between Loop 202 (Santan Highway) and Riggs Road from Friday 11:30pm to Saturday 8:00pm (Nov 12) and from Saturday 11:30 p.m. to Sunday 8:00 p.m (Nov. 13) for patch sealing. All ramps connecting I-10 and Loop 202 will be temporarily closed on Saturday (Ramps should be reopened as soon as possible after the pavement seal has dried). Also, plan to close I-10 between Chandler Boulevard and Riggs Road on Saturday (The right lanes of I-10 will be closed). detour: Please allow additional travel time and consider alternate routes to avoid I-10 work areas. Crews will work to reopen I-10 in sections over the course of Saturday and Sunday’s work.
  • Westbound Loop 303 between I-17 and Lake Pleasant Parkway closed Friday 8 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m (November 14) for construction. I-17 exits at Loop 303 are restricted, access is restricted to Sonoran Desert Drive (east of I-17). The ramps to I-17 at Loop 303 will remain open. detour: Alternative routes include westbound SR 74 to southbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to enter Loop 303 after closure.
  • Westbound Thunderbird Road is closed 24 hours a day between northbound I-17 Frontage Road and Metro North Corporate Park Road (west of I-17) from Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m (November 21) for regional drainage system project. detour: Consider using cactus or greenway roads as alternative routes. note: The I-17 southbound exit and southbound frontage between Acoma Drive and Thunderbird Road are scheduled to close beginning Friday, November 11 through Spring 2023 for drainage project. Local access routes will be available.

ADOT is planning and building new freeways, additional lanes of traffic and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Maricopa County Regional Transportation Plan. The projects are funded in part by Proposition 400, a special sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
