2023 Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope Gala honorees include:
- HEB, Community Partner Award – This award recognizes an organization’s strong partnership with the Montgomery County Food Bank and its impact on the community. HEB is a long-standing partner in the fight against hunger not just in Montgomery County, but throughout the Feeding Texas network. HEB provides advice and support to the Montgomery County Food Bank and works on ways to further the food bank’s mission, such as: HEB sponsors an annual Help End Hunger campaign at all of its Montgomery County stores, raising awareness of local food insecurity and raising funds that remain in the county for the Montgomery County Food Bank. HEB is a real pioneer in the fight against hunger.
- Western Midstream Volunteer Award – This award honors an organization for outstanding volunteer service with the Montgomery County Food Bank. During the 2021-2022 fiscal year of the Montgomery County Food Bank, over 125 Western Midstream employees volunteered their time in the Food Bank’s food sorting rooms and committed to a recurring shift on the first Friday of every month in 2022. The company encourages its employees to donate back through hands-on service in the community. Their smiling faces and doer attitude create a joyful and uplifting atmosphere while helping in many different ways. Western Midstream has also served on many of the Montgomery County Food Bank’s major fundraising events, including Shootout Hunger and Stock The Sleigh. Western Midstream has quickly become an invaluable and trusted resource for the Food Bank and the thousands of neighbors affected by food insecurity.
- compassion united, Award Partner Agency of the Year – The Food Bank has a network of over 80 partner agencies throughout Montgomery County. This award honors a partner agency for their tireless and great work in the fight against hunger. During the Food Bank’s 2021-2022 fiscal year, Compassion Untied distributed approximately 430,000 meals to those in need through its Terry’s Table pantry. Compassion United also distributes groceries through its monthly Lewis Park mobile market, serving 350 families with each distribution. When the Food Bank needed additional help to directly serve neighbors in low-income residential communities, Compassion United stepped in and took over distribution at Tall Timbers and Havenwood Apartments. Compassion United is a beacon of hope for food insecure Montgomery County residents.
“The mission of the Montgomery County Food Bank is to unite the community to end hunger,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of the Montgomery County Food Bank. “The task is too big for just a few individuals or organizations, so each of our partners plays an important role in our efforts. We are honored to recognize the 2023 honorees for their outstanding partnership and critical role in our mission. I look forward to celebrating each of them and their impact in February.”
